International Day of Zero Waste – 30 March 2025

To mark the International Day of Zero Waste, celebrated each year on March 30 under the auspices of the United Nations, the ECO Imagination team launched a collective challenge: one week without producing waste, at home, at the office, and on the go.

The goal? Raise awareness, experiment, step out of our comfort zones, and rethink our relationship with objects and resources.

Why zero waste?

Each year, more than 2 billion tonnes of municipal waste are generated worldwide. Nearly half is not properly managed, contributing to pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity loss, and increasing health risks.

Adopting a zero waste approach is not about being perfect, but about reducing impact at the source, encouraging reuse, composting, and entering a circular economy logic.

Zero Waste Week at ECO Imagination

From March 30 to April 6, each team member tried to reduce their waste production as much as possible. That included:

  • Eliminating single-use plastics

  • Composting organic waste

  • Refusing unnecessary packaging

  • Using reusable containers

  • Repairing, reusing, and repurposing items

What our colleagues learned from the experience

Here are a few reflections from Laura, Erika, and Denisse:

Laura: “The hardest part was grocery shopping without packaging. I had to change my habits and go to the market with my jars, but the shopkeepers loved the idea!”

Erika: “This challenge forced me to slow down and plan ahead. I realized how much I rely on convenience, and how omnipresent plastic really is.”

Denisse: “I made my own cleaning products for the first time! It was rewarding, simple, and I will definitely continue.”

This Zero Waste Week was much more than a simple exercise: it allowed each of us to become aware again of the impact of our daily actions. Saying no to a plastic bag, carrying your reusable bottle, repairing instead of throwing away… these are the habits that make a difference.

At ECO Imagination, we believe that change also comes by example. By leading sustainable projects, but also by living our values in daily life, we are building a more responsible future.
