On 5 June, the world marked World Environment Day under the theme "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future." Hosted this year by Azerbaijan in Baku, the 2026 edition placed one question at its centre: the Earth is sending us signals. What signal are we sending back?
Since 1973, this annual platform led by the United Nations Environment Programme has been one of the few moments when global mobilisation around environmental challenges genuinely converges. In 2026, with the eleven hottest years on record now behind us, urgency is no longer an argument. It is a reality.
At ECO Imagination, that question is not abstract. It runs through the work we support every day across our Horizon Europe projects. With BIOFAIRNET, we contribute to building circular bioeconomy models in agriculture and mining. With INNOAQUA, we support the development of sustainable aquaculture built around algae integration. With UPCYCLE, we work on the next generation of biobased and recyclable packaging. In each of these projects, nature is not a backdrop. It is the starting point.
Climate action does not wait for the right moment. It is built through the work already underway, and through the people committed to seeing it through.
